Dr. Anthony Fauci has been found reluctant to back the federal mask mandate. On the 15th of September, during a meeting with Vermont Governor Phil Scott, Dr. Fauci described that a national mandate possibly would not work.

On July 21, in Morning Edition of NPR, Dr. Fauci said that he has trust in the Americans that if they put a robust emphasis on the significance of wearing face masks, that they will come around and do that and get that percentage higher the relatively low percentage Americans that are using face masks. Moreover, he has described before that he does not think a federal mandate would be the way to go.
In July, during a live Facebook event, Dr. Fauci told Doug Jones (Alabama Sen.) that he doesn’t like to be authoritarian from the federal Govt. but at the local level, in case if governors and others important mandate the use of face masks when people have an outbreak, he thinks that would be very important.

Masks will be mandated in case of violation
On Friday, Dr. Fauci described to CNN’s Erin Burnett that if people are not covering their faces with masks, then maybe we should be directing it.
Coronavirus pandemic has been significantly dangerous in the U.S., and the infection reaches 32 states on Friday and heading steadily in seventeen more. Furthermore, the University of Washington’s Institute for Health Metrics & Evaluation described that the country was stepping in for a winter surge when new cases crossed 75,000 in only one day on Friday and above 800 deaths were declared.
Dr. Fauci said that face masks mandates might be complicated to implement, but now it’s a time to call for them. He described that there is going to be trouble enforcing it, but if people agree that this is something that is crucial and they mandate it, and people pull together and says that they are going to mandate it but let’s just do it, and he thinks that would be a great plan to have everyone do it uniformly.
Dr. Anthony Fauci added that as cooler weather arrives, Americans need to double down on guidelines that work. He said that universal mask-wearing is an important one as washing hands and keeping a distance from others. Moreover, Anthony Fauci said that they sound very simple, but they are not uniformly doing that, and this is one of the reasons they are facing these upsurges.
