François Fillon, the former French Prime Minister, Penelope (his wife) and Marc Joulaud (his former assistant), have been exposed guilty of misusing the public funds and concealment by the Paris court.

The decision determined that Fillon paid his children, his wife, and Joulaud as well, hundreds of thousands of euros extracting from people’s payroll for little or no work.

Ten years ban on participating in elections

Former French Prime Minister punished to 5 years in jail, three of them suspended, as well as fined with 423,000 dollars or 375,000 euros, and 10 years ban on participating in elections.

Fillon’s wife was punished with a fine of 421,149 dollars or 375,000 euros and sentenced to three years in prison. Moreover, both Fillon and his co-defendant were even directed to repay above one million euros or 1.13 million dollars, to the French National Assembly.

Lawyer of Fillon, Antonin Levy, said to BFM-TV that this conclusion is not fair and they will appeal. He continued that there is going to be a new trial. Furthermore, in the previous few days, they have in progress to understand the ludicrous situations in which this investigation was projected.

From 2007 to 2012, Fillon was acting as prime minister under Nicolas Sarkozy, the President. He got into trouble in 2017, as Le Canard Enchaine, a French satirical newspaper, published a report that two of his adult children and his wife received around one million euros as parliamentary assistants accused of the fake jobs.

At that time, Fillon clearly denied all the claims by saying that his wife Penelope had worked for fifteen years as his deputy and managed several actions, which include organizing his schedule and representing Fillon at cultural events.

He added that his son and his daughter were worked in a similar position for six months and 15 months, respectively, which he told that is not an illegal thing, but it was just an error of judgment.

After this scandal, his campaign distracted for the French presidency in 2017 and offered a way for the victory of Emmanuel Macron.
