Two GOP House representatives in South Carolina who drew the anger of former Republican President Donald Trump now face challenging primary challenges yesterday from candidates he has endorsed. Representative Tom Rice and Nancy Mace slammed then-president Trump after the January 6 Capitol riot, with Rice among the ten House GOP leaders who crossed party lines to vote against Trump to impeach him.

A progressive opposed Democratic Representative Dina Titus in Nevada, while GOP Representative Mark Amodei faced a tough challenge from Danny Tarkanian, the son of the legendary University of Nevada, Las Vegas basketball coach Jerry Tarkanian. Likewise, an ex-GOP congressman is looking to reclaim his old seat in Maine. Additionally, the Texan concerned authorities held a special primary election to serve the remaining months of former Democratic Representative Filemon Vela’s term.
South Carolina GOP Leaders Face Challengers
Representative Tom Rice, a five-time congressman, attracted around half a dozen Republican challengers after he voted to impeach then-president Donald Trump. Those leaders called the vote a mark of betrayal to Rice’s constituents in the 7th Congressional District and Donald Trump, who heavily supported the former president in his two presidential campaigns. The former president endorsed state Representative Russell Fry in the race.

The ten GOP representatives who voted to impeach then-president Trump faced varying consequences. Adam Kinzinger and Liz Cheney have become vocal critics of the former president and currently sit on the United States House of Representatives Committee that is probing the Capitol insurrection. Kinzinger is among those leaders who are not running for re-election, while others are struggling for their political careers.
