Ukraine’s Zelenskyy Says Situation in Bakhmut is Getting Complicated

Early on Tuesday, the situation in Donetsk Oblast’s Bakhmut City in eastern Ukraine was highly complicated, according to Oleksandr Syrskyi, Commander of the Ukrainian Ground Forces, as Moscow forces trying to capture it increased their attacks in a bid to surround the city. In spite of facing significant losses, the Russian invaders have forwarded its well-trained PMC Wagner assault groups to break through the Russian military lines and encircle the city, according to Oleksandr Syrskyi, a Ukrainian military officer.

According to media reports, Russia’s Putin-led military is attempting to block Ukraine’s supply lines to the town and compel them to lay down the arms or pull out. And in his regular address on Monday, the President of war-ravaged Ukraine said that the ground situation is getting more tense. He added Moscow troops were constantly devastating everything that could be employed to defend their positions.

The remarks by the Ukrainian President came as Janet Yellen, the U.S. Secretary of Treasury, warned Beijing against weaponizing Russians during a surprise trip to the Ukrainian capital on February 27. Furthermore, the Russian military has been intensifying its strikes on several parts of Ukraine’s Eastern region, including Bakhmut and Donetsk Province.

Cut Bakhmut From Supply Lines

It’s reported that Putin’s troops have made some movement from the South and North as they seek out to surround the town and detach Zelenskyy forces inside it from supply lines. The Kremlin troops have been attempting to take control of the eastern Ukrainian city for over 6 months. The City of Bakhmut, around 89 kms north of Donetsk, had a pre-war population of nearly 73,213 (2020 estimates).

The Ukrainian military also said that Moscow had strengthened its military in the Bakhmut region and was constantly bombarding several settlements around the city. Over the past 24 hours, their personnel effectively resisted Moscow strikes on Yadhidne and Berkhivka villages north of Bakhmut City. And Ukraine’s military analyst Oleh Zhdanov said Kremlin forces had heavily shelled those settlements as they attempted to block the road west to Chasiv Yar City, around 10 km West of Bakhmut.
