On Tuesday, a person alleged for the assassination of eight people at Atlanta-region massage businesses (mostly Asian descent’s ladies) was convicted of murder. The man was punished to spend his whole life in jail.
A twenty-two years old man, Robert Aaron, still has to go through the death penalty in the other killings, which are going to be held in another country. Moreover, a series of assassinations at 3 businesses in March drew outrage and spread fear in Asian American people, who had previously dealt with an emerged discrimination related to the pandemic Coronavirus. Most of them were very depressed as authorities proposed Long’s wrongdoings were not racially motivated but born of a sex addiction, which didn’t act as an official disorder.
Prosecutors of Cherokee County had decided to look for the death punishment but made an appeal that would bring instant justice and ignore any extensive requests. Furthermore, Shannon Wallace (district attorney) described that is what the sufferers and their families who they were able to contact wanted.
The twenty-four years old husband of Bonnie Michels has been recognized as the first person killed. She described to the judge that a part of her died with him that day, and she was shattered.
Elcias Hernandez Ortiz (shot in the face) even explained in the courtroom, saying that it has been very tough for his family. With the help of a Spanish translator, he described, honestly this man, why did not he think ahead of killing several people? He added that he just wants justice.
Long intended to kill Asian people, especially women
Long assassinated 4 people on 16 March. In victims, three were ladies and two Asian descent women, at the location of Youngs Asian Massage. Another person was injured. The police officers said that Long then moved to Atlanta, at Gold Spa, he killed three ladies before crossing the street to Aromatherapy Spa and assassinated another woman. Moreover, all of the people who he killed in Atlanta were of Asian descent.
On Tuesday, Wallace repeated that Cherokee County detectives found no indication of racial bias. Long passed through the first location of the massage center, shooting and killing everyone he saw and described to investigators that he was motivated by sex addiction.
On Tuesday, Asian American community heads described that they were anxious that the shootings and assassinations continue to be accounted on sex addiction, but Long’s primary aim was to target Asian people, particularly Asian ladies.
